1. General information

The following provides the User with general information about what cookies are and the types of cookies that exist.

    What are cookies?

Cookies and other similar technologies, such as pixels, web bugs, etc., are text or image files that are installed in the User’s browser when the User visits a Website.

Among other things, cookies can store and retrieve information about the Users, their browsers, their devices and their activity on the service to which they are connected.

What types of cookies are there?

There are many different types of cookies. Below, we provide the User with some classifications of cookies, without necessarily implying that this Service uses all of these types of cookies:

    1. Depending on the company managing them:
      • Own cookies: these are sent to the User’s device or terminal from the system or domain belonging to the owner of a service and managed by the latter.
      • Third-party cookies: these are sent to the User’s device or terminal from a system or domain that is not managed by the owner of a service, but by a third party that will process the information obtained through the cookies.
    2. Depending on the time they remain active:
      • Session cookies: these are cookies that collect and store data when the User accesses a service and cease to exist once the User leaves the service.
      • Persistent cookies: these are cookies that have a duration set by the service provider. The retention period can vary from a few minutes to several years. They are used to store and retrieve certain parameters each time the User visits a service.
    3. Depending on their purpose:
      • Technical cookies: these are essential and strictly necessary for the correct functioning and use of the various options or services offered by the parties responsible for them. For example, those for session maintenance, response time management, performance or validation of options, use of security elements, etc.
      • Personalisation cookies: these are cookies that allow the User to specify or personalise some of the characteristics of a service. For example, setting the language, regional settings or browser type.
      • Analytics cookies: these are cookies that allow us to count the number of unique visitors and to analyse the use of a service in order to measure the interests of these visitors or certain areas of the same. For example, analytics cookies would be used to monitor the geographical areas from which the highest percentage of users connect, which product or service is most popular, etc.
      • Advertising cookies: these enable the management of advertising spaces in a service.
      • Behavioural advertising cookies: these enable the management of advertising spaces in a service. The role of these cookies is to store information about the behaviour of users of a service in order to subsequently display personalised advertising.
    4. Other technologies:
      • Pixels, web bugs or trackers: tracking pixels, pixel tracking, pixel tags or conversion pixels, web beacons. These are tiny, transparent images of 1×1 pixels that are inserted into a service in order to measure the activity. When a particular page of the service is loaded in a browser, this image is loaded and this data can be measured. Tracking pixels are generally used to track how far a particular User’s IP address has travelled through an online service.
      • HTML5 storage: this consists of using the capabilities of HTML5 technology to store in the User’s browser certain parameters that can be used to identify the User’s browser.
      • Local Shared Object (LSO): also known as ‘flash cookies’, consists of information being stored on the User’s device without cookies, using Adobe Flash Player technology.
      • ETag (or entity tag): this is the mechanism provided by the HTTP protocol for validating the web cache that the User stores in their browser on the web. This technology is mainly used to save bandwidth by avoiding having to download the same content twice. However, it can also be used to identify the User’s browser.
      • Canvas fingerprinting: this provides a means of uniquely identifying the User’s devices through their browser using HTML5 web standard technology.
      • Font recognition: this technology identifies the font settings of the User’s device to uniquely identify the device.
      • Browser cache: as the name suggests, this technology consists of storing information in the browser cache.
      • WebGL: this technology makes use of the capabilities of modern browsers to display three-dimensional images to uniquely identify the device, as each device is configured differently.
